The Antihero

The character that I think of first when I hear the word antihero is Michael Scofield from the TV show Prison Break. Michael is the typical antihero because he really comes from nothing, but he is an engineering genius, and he uses those skills to help his brother Lincoln get out of prison. Michael knew that Lincoln was not guilty, but he had to face the death penalty very soon. Michael fakes a bank robbery and gets into the same prison that Lincoln is in. He has an elaborate tattoo that covers his entire upper body, but they are his escape plans in disguise. Obviously, Michael is not a model citizen for he has robbed a bank and plans to escape from prison. He really does not have any heroic values except that he is trying to do the right thing for his brother. That is what makes him an antihero. Not much is really that exceptional about him, but yet he is the protagonist. Eventually, he does break his brother out of prison, along with many other inmates. By the end of the series, Michael dies because of his last heroic action, he dies for someone so that they can be set free.
